Happenings December 6, 2019

My YouTube Christmas Playlist has some strange songs on it.  Life and Faith do not always have to be super-serious.

Some of the songs on my playlist include:

“Nowell Sing We Clear” singing, “Rudolph.”

“Bruce Springsteen” singing, “Santa Claus is coming to town.” (live version)

“David DeBoy” singing, “Crabs for Christmas.”

“Leon Redbone and Dr. John,” singing, “Frosty the Snowman.”

“Scott Kirby,” singing, “Christmas in Key West.”

“Pentatonix,” singing, “Away in a Manger.”

“Bing Crosby and David Bowie,” singing Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth.”

“Ernie Haas and Signature Sound,” singing, “Hallelujah.”

And, “The Twelve Days of Christmas performed by:

               Jimmy Buffet

               Bob and Doug McKenzie

A former (Pre-Tucker) Ravens team (terrible singers)

A “Baltimore” twelve days which on day one offers, “A trip down the o-shun, Hon.”

You know I have a sense of humor, and I enjoy some fun songs, however when I am in a spiritual mood, or when am working in the office preparing an Advent or Christmas worship, I seldom listen to the silly songs.  I am more likely to listen Christmas albums by James Galway, John Denver, Windham Hill Christmas, A Colonial Folk Christmas by Linda Russell, or some other quieter and more Christ centered music.

Mr. Miyagi in the “Karate Kid” movie (and many others) teaches his young student, Daniel, about balance in karate and life.  In these days of potentially great excesses it would good, as the simple bumper sticker slogan says, “Keep Christ in Christmas.”  Balance is good!  Have fun!  Give God what God is due!
